GET-Citians see Obama present his energy policy
Thanks to the hard work and sheer tenacity of Angie and Shari who queued up for tickets from the wee hours of Saturday morning, a select group of GET-Citians got to see Obama in person, on his 47th brithday, at the Lansing Center on August 4th, 2008. We got to hear Mr. Obama talk about how he would kick off his energy policy by focusing on creating green collar jobs and fuel efficient and alternative cars in Michigan! Here are some pictures of the GET Citians at the event, and the pictures they took of the Democratic Presidential Candidate.
Here's a picture of all of us waiting in line to get into Lansing Center. Everyone is all smiles and really excited at the prospect of seeing Mr. Obama.
Below is a picture of Laddarius and Chris posing inside Lansing Center.

Laddarius, Chris, Jeffrey & Trey were interviewed by the TV station about their thoughts on seeing Mr. Obama and what they think of his energy policy.

GET city earth day MURAL

Greetings GET citian mural artists! Your challenge for EARTH DAY 08 is to create a beautiful mural that will tell viewers a story of GET city. Your mural should highlight what GET city is about, who GET citians are as well as what we are exploring in GET city.
Here is an example of a beautiful mural.
Click on this URL to check out more examples of outstanding murals. Then brainstorm and sketch out how you would want the GET city mural to look like.

Earth Day is Coming!!!
On April 22, we will present our GET City work at Earth Day! Here are a few questions to get you thinking about what we might do and how we might do it!
GET City and Earth Day
But wait, there is more...
Do you want a new iPod mp3 player? One that says, "Get green! GET City!"???? Well, here is your chance.... We thought you could have done ALOT more with your websites. In fact, we did not think that any of your websites were quite done enough to go live on our website. So, we are going to give you a little more time to work on your website. We will have a panel that will judge the websites (younger group and older group) and the winners will receive a new ipod mp3 player.

FIeldtrip to the Erickson Power Plant
On the 25th of January, we went to visit the Erickson Power Plant to learn more about how electricity is produced through burning coal. Here are some pictures of us exploring the power plant, and some interesting things that we learn
ed!
We started off with a brief introduction given by a staff member of the plant. Then we all got hard hats to wear because you cannot go ANYWHERE in the plant without a hard hat! It's a safety rule.
We looked mighty fine in our hard hats! Take a look at Kaylin & Jeffrey!!
We then went for a tour of the power plant, here's what our journey looked like.
We looked at the massive filtration systems that are really noisy. We had to listen very carefully.

Here we are standing in the "Hazardous Chemicals" zone. It was very cool and we were very safe because we had all the safety equipment: hard hats and goggles!
There are 9 floors to the plant. We enthusiastically climbed up FOUR floors...

We then had several views of the INSIDE the furnace, which was really hot!!

Finally we went to the control room where we learned that many things need to work together in harmony for the power plant to run effectively. We were also very happy to learn that the Erickson Power Plant is a coal burning plant that has won awards for being "clean burning" - they take care to release fewer pollutants into the air.
Go GREEN! Go Lansing! Go Get City!!
